In honor of the NFL Super Bowl, which has become almost more popular for the half-time show and commercials than the game itself: I saw this commercial at church yesterday and loved it. Duracell tells the story of Seattle Seahawks hearing-impaired fullback Derrick Coleman, playing in football’s biggest game despite challenges and doubters.
After seeing the commercial a nine-year-old deaf girl wrote a letter to Coleman, which her father tweeted. When the letter made its way to Coleman, he wrote his young fan a personal letter in reply. Coleman met the girl and her twin sister on Good Morning America, where he surprised them with Super Bowl tickets for their whole family.
Though the Super Bowl is still later today, I doubt I will see a better commercial on what is likely the biggest TV ad day of the year:
